Consultant pharmacists are key members of today’s health care team. Half of consultant pharmacists surveyed report that their drug therapy recommendations (most often, discontinuation of an unnecessary drug) are implemented by physicians more than 75% of the time.


A recent scientific cost analysis indicates that as many as 120,000 deaths could be prevented and tens of billions of dollars saved each year in the United States if all pharmacists provided comprehensive, patient-focused pharmaceutical care services– the same sorts of services consultant pharmacists have pioneered and perfected in nursing homes.


Consultant pharmacists’ life-enhancing, cost-saving services aren’t limited to the nation’s nursing homes. Consultant pharmacists also work in assisted living and residential care facilities, psychiatric hospitals, facilities for the mentally retarded, correctional institutions, hospices—even right in patients’ homes.
